Viqueens advance with win over EM
FARRAGUT—The Stanton Viqueens came away with the win Monday night in the quarterfinal game of the Corner Conference Tournament against the East Mills Wolverines.
Stanton defeated East Mills 57-29 at Nishnabotna High School in Farragut. The win was Stanton’s eighth in a row.
Kara Allen scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to get a double-double in the win.
They will be in Villisca Wednesday night to take on the Fremont-Mills Knights, who defeated Clarinda Academy in the quarterfinals.
Friday night, Stanton blew out Clarinda Academy, 70-12. Stanton’s defense didn’t give up double-digit points in all four quarters. Four Viqueen players had double-digit points on the night.
Rachel Sorensen and Allen were the leading scorers for the team as each recorded 12 points. Sorensen finished with eight rebounds (three offensive).
Carmen Subbert scored 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting with eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Erin DeKay scored 11 points on 4-for-12 shooting and had 15 rebounds (seven offensive) off the bench, giving the sophomore a double-double.
Last Tuesday, Stanton defeated Nishnabotna 51-38 at home. The Viqueens trailed 14-9 at the end of the first quarter. However, the Viqueens responded by outscoring the Blue Devils 19-6 in the second, which kept them in the lead the rest of the game.
Subbert had a double-double in the win over Nishnabotna, scoring 15 points on 7-for-13 shooting and 13 rebounds (seven offensive).
Ragen Anderson also scored 15 points for the Viqueens in the win over the Blue Devils. Allen recorded 10 and had seven rebounds.
Stanton started their week Jan. 9 with a win over Heartland Christian 80-25. The Viqueens once again had four players finish with double-digit points.
Subbert led the way for the Viqueens with 15 points on 5-for-12 shooting and 5-for-8 at the free throw line. Ragen Anderson scored 13 points, while Allen and Sara Sederburg each recorded 10 points.
Stanton has a 9-4 record.
