Viqueens sit in second in Corner softball race

SHENANDOAH—The Stanton Viqueens split both of their games during the Shenandoah Tournament Saturday.

They defeated Missouri Valley 5-4, but lost to Shenandoah 8-0.

Shenandoah took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, scoring additional runs in the third, fourth and fifth.

The Viqueens had four hits in the game against Shenandoah. Macy Elwood led the way by going 2-for-3. Heidi Vanderholm and Logan Wagg had the other two hits.

Against Missouri Valley, the Viqueens were able to hold them off late and get the win. Carmen Subbert had a big game against Missouri Valley as she was 2-for-4 with a home run and three runs batted in.

Ragen Anderson got the win for Stanton as she pitched a complete game, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits and striking out four.

Stanton also fell out of first place Friday evening when they fell to Essex 6-3.

Against Essex, Stanton took a 1-0 lead in the first, but Essex was able to score a run in the second and three more in the third to take the lead.

The Viqueens were within a run until later in the game when the Trojanettes posted a run in the fifth and sixth innings.

Logan Wagg led the way for Stanton by going 2-for-3. Subbert meanwhile was 1-for-3 with a home run and two runs batted in.

Kimber Wagg was 1-for-3, while Vanderholm and Rachel Sorensen were also 1-for-3.

Stanton 8, Sidney 1

The Viqueens were able to pull ahead early and maintain their lead over the Cowgirls.

Anderson got the win for Stanton as she tossed a complete game, giving up one run (not earned) on four hits.

Sorensen had a big day at the plate for Stanton as she was 2-for-3 with a triple, two stolen bases, two runs scored and two more driven in.

Wagg was also 2-for-3 in the game with a double and a RBI.

Stanton 8, Corning 5

The Viqueens started the week with a win last Monday against Corning. Stanton jumped ahead 4-1 after the first inning and never looked back.

Subbert had a big game at the plate, as she was 2-for-3 with a home run (her second of the season) and a double.

Erin DeKay also had a multi-hit day as she was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three runs scored.

Anderson had the win for Stanton in that one as she gave up five runs (four earned) on eight hits and struck out two.

The Viqueens will be on the road this week.

The action starts Tuesday when they travel to Hamburg to face Nishnabotna.

Thursday they’ll be in Malvern when they take on the East Mills Wolverines.

Finally on Saturday, they’ll be competing at the Bedford Softball Tournament.
