Viqueens stay perfect, 21-0

STANTON – The Viqueens struck again as they buried East Mills in the first round of the girls’ regional tournament, winning 75-13.

The Wolverines were no match for the third time this season as Stanton jumped out to a 29-0 lead after the first quarter.

Kadie Subbert and Ragen Anderson led Stanton, scoring 20 and 16 respectively, with limited minutes in the playoff game.

The Viqueen defense held East Mills to only five points in the first half as the Wolverines turned the ball over 38 times.

Subbert and junior Molly Haley led the Viqueens with six steals each.

The Viqueens smothering defense kept the pressure on the second half, holding the Wolverines to four points in the third and fourth quarter.

The fourth-ranked Viqueens will face Essex for the fourth time this season, Tuesday.

The Trojanettes ran through Fremont-Mills Saturday, 55-43, in hopes to get another chance at handing the Corner Conference Champions their first loss.

Senior center Joscelyn Coleman led the way for Essex, missing a triple-double by two rebounds (19 points, 27 rebounds, eight assists).

Annie Lindburg also stepped up for Essex, adding 12 points to the Essex total.

In the previous three contests the Viqueens won by three, four, and 19 points.

Coleman led the Trojanettes in the first two games scoring 14 and 18, while freshman Haley Fundermann led the charge with 14 in the third meeting.

Subbert combined for 46 points for Stanton in the first three contests. Sorensen led the Viqueens with 15 in the second game, while Anderson added 18 in the final meeting.

The Viqueens have won by an average of 30 points, outscoring their opponents 1,249-619, allowing the third-least amount of points this season behind Exira and North Mahaska.

The winner of Tuesday’s game between Stanton and Essex will face the winner of Bedford and Sidney.
