Volleyball Updates: Stanton advances plus 1A bracket

The brackets for the state volleyball tournament are officially set. Stanton was able to come from behind to defeat Ar-We-Va Wednesday night in Atlantic and advance to their third straight state tournament.

The Viqueens will play the Janesville Wildcats in the quarterfinals next Thursday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m. in Cedar Rapids. The other quarterfinal matches will feature the defending state champions Tripoli taking on LeMars Gelhen Catholic, while Grundy Center faces Grandview Park Baptist and Marquette Catholic plays Holy Trinity Catholic.

In Class 2A, St. Albert will play West Branch in the quarterfinals, while Treynor faces Western Christian. The other two quarterfinal matches will feature Dike-New Hartford versus Sumner-Fredericksburg and Lake Mills versus Kuemper Catholic.

Stanton is the second team from the area to get into the state tournament as Red Oak was able to get in Tuesday night.
