Waggener, Haufle to join Red Oak City Council
MONTGOMERY COUNTY — The Red Oak City Council will see two new members in January, according to the unofficial election results from today.
With 336 votes, Roger Waggener beat incumbent Fred Pilecki for the at-large council position. Pilecki received 197 votes, and the third candidate, Rusty Williams, came in with 126.
Waggener came in the lead in all three wards with 90 votes in ward one, 76 in ward two and 170 in ward three.
Pilecki received 56 votes in ward one, 65 in two and 76 in three. Williams received 32, 50 and 44, respectively.
For the open council seat in ward two, Bill Haufle, with 90 votes, will replace current councilmember Tom Pratt, who decided not to seek re-election. Haufle’s opponent, Jerry Daffer, fell just shy of winning with 86 votes.
For mayor of Red Oak, an uncontested race, incumbent Bill Billings received 521 votes.
Also on the Red Oak ballot was the renewal of the Local Options Sales Tax, which passed by a smooth margin — 511 yes and 136 no.
Other County Elections
In Coburg, Cal Myers beat incumbent Jody Schooling for mayor with nine votes. Schooling received seven.
Two write-in candidates will be elected to the Coburg city council, Ellen Houser (8 votes) and Sandra Gray (7 votes). Bill Hardy was the third write-in candidate and came in with four votes.
Villisca will also see a new mayor in January, Marilyn Halda, who won by a smooth margin with 172 votes. Larry Figgins received 63 votes.
Villisca will see two new councilmembers as well, T.J. Leonard (112 votes) and Richard Mullen (105 votes). Incumbent Rex Galloway fell short with 68 votes. Other candidates for Villisca city council included, Vince Abraham (41 votes), Mark Heimbach (71 votes) and Ed Ramsey (67 votes).
In Stanton, Dan Shehan (88 votes), Harold Clark (82 votes) and Dan Allen (68 votes) will be elected to the city council. Incumbent Tysen Sederburg fell short with 65 votes.
In Grant, six incumbents will be re-elected as mayor and city council members including Mayor Andrea Holldorf (18 votes) and councilmembers Michael Amos (24 votes), Jeffrey Brown (22 votes), Michael Ford (19 votes), Lyn Sliger (25 votes) and Nancy Taylor (24 votes).
With 67 votes, Michael Carson will be the new mayor of Elliott through an uncontested race.
Also in Elliott, Michelle Cockburn (50 votes) will hold her current city council seat. She will be joined by newcomers Jeff Smith (54 votes) and Deana Lewis (45 votes). Incumbent Nancy Jo Nelson received 33 votes, and Ken Potter came in with 36.
Finally, with 44 yes votes and seven no votes, the Montgomery County Township LOST will be renewed. Ward one received nine yes votes and one no; ward two was two yes, one no; ward three was nine yes, one no; ward four was seven yes, one no; ward five was seven yes, two no; ward 6 was four yes, one no; and ward seven was six yes, zero no.
