Weather Watch: Thunderstorms possible Wednesday thru Friday

OMAHA — Thunderstorms are possible for Southwest Iowa from Wednesday until Friday, including in Montgomery County, according to the latest forecasts from the National Weather Service (NWS).

The storms aren't likely to develop until later Wednesday afternoon, according to a Hazardous Weather Outlook released by NWS. The thunderstorms would develop South of Interstate-80, along an advancing cold front.

A deep layer shear, combined with the destablization of air, make it possible for severe thunderstorms to hit.

Here is the forecast from the National Weather Service.

Mostly sunny skies will be in Wednesday's forecast, with a high reaching 89. However, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m.

The chances increase for showers and thunderstorms after 7 p.m., with a low around 61.

There's a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms for Thursday. Skies will be mostly cloudy with a high in the upper 70s.

Thursday night, there will be a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms again, as the low will be in the mid-60s.

Finally on Friday, there's a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m. The high will be in the upper 70s.
