Weather Watch: Winter storm watch for Wednesday

The latest forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS) Office in Omaha suggests much of Southwest Iowa could see a lot of snow for Wednesday.

Much of Iowa, including Southwest Iowa, was issued a winter storm watch on Monday. The watch goes into effect Wednesday afternoon and won't expire until late Wednesday night.

Currently, the heaviest band, which is expected anywhere between 5-7 inches, is projected to hit much of Southeast Nebraska and Southwest Iowa for Wednesday. The band starts from Northern Kansas and heads Northeast through Southeast Nebraska and Western Iowa.

The latest forecast suggests the snow will start in Eastern Nebraska around midday and spread to Western Iowa by the mid-afternoon.

Breezy winds will be a factor Wednesday as gusts as high as 30 MPH could lead to blowing and drifting snow, making travel difficult. Whiteout conditions are possible.
