Wederquist leads all-Corner boys basketball nods
The East Mills Wolverines had two players chosen for first team all-conference by the Corner Conference, released last week.
Keegan Wederquist was the lone unanimous selection for the Wolverines on first team. He was picked for first team along with guard Jacob Schafer.
The remaining first team list includes Cody Cunard and Stevie Horan of Heartland Christian, Jacob Cain and Chris Osborn of Sidney, Isaiah Lake of Clarinda Academy and Austin Switzer of Fremont-Mills.
Cunard, Lake, Horan and Cain were also unanimous first team selections.
This is the first appearance for both Wederquist and Schafer on the first team list. Last season, they were both honorable mentions.
Both Wederquist and Schafer played key roles for East Mills as they made it to the state tournament this season.
Wederquist led the conference in total rebounds with 314.
Schafer meanwhile was third in the conference for assists with 86.
East Mills, Stanton and Essex each had one player make it on the second team list.
Logan Currin was selected for East Mills to be on second team, while Ian Isaacson was chosen for Essex and Kyle Peterson was picked for Stanton.
Currin was the second leading scorer for East Mills, averaging 11.5 points per game. Peterson meanwhile was third on Stanton in scoring, averaging 11 points per game. Isaacson was the leading scorer for Essex as he averaged 12 points per game. Isaacson was the lone Trojan representative on the all-conference list.
The rest of the second team list includes Fremont-Mills’ Aaron Fleuren, Sidney’s Michael Coates, South Page’s Zachary Peterman, Nishnabotna’s Tyler Beam and Clarinda Academy’s Devonta White.
It’s the first appearance for Currin, Isaacson and Peterson on the all-conference list.
For honorable mentions, Stanton’s Brady Johnson and East Mills’ Michael Story were selected.
Other honorable mentions on the list include Heartland Christian’s Lon Gray, Clarinda Academy’s Dave Shumpert, Sidney’s Erick Rodriguez and Nishnabotna’s Bradley Nahkunst.
