Wiig defeats Blue in Supervisor race; three townships end elections

MONTGOMERY COUNTY – The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors will have two more members and three townships changed the way officials are chosen at last week’s general election. 

Joshua Wiig and Mark Peterson were elected to represent Districts Two and Four, respectively, while incumbent Steve Ratliff was elected to represent District One on the Board of Supervisors. 

Peterson and Ratliff ran unopposed after winning the Republican nomination in June. 

Wiig defeated incumbent Karen Blue by a 64-36 percent (412-232 votes) margin in the only contested race. It was a repeat from the June primary when Wiig beat Blue by a 55-45 percent margin to secure the Republican nomination. 

Blue, seeking a third term to the Board, ran as an Independent in the general election. 

In a county-wide referendum, nine of 12 townships rejected a proposal to allow the Board of Supervisors to appoint trustees and clerks, instead of having them elected. change to appointing township trustees and clerks by a one and two vote margin, respectively. 

West township defeated the measure by the largest margin, 75-25 percent (50-17 votes). 

The Montgomery County Ag Extension Council and the Soil and Water Commission also hosted contested elections. 

Five people were elected to the Ag Council, including Lori DeKay (2,069), Joseph Jardon (1,855), Darcy Dalton (1,708), Linda Parker (1,694) and Misty Adams (1,578) were elected. Kate Fridolph finished sixth with 1,355 votes. 

Roger Cerven and Kirk Baird were elected to the Soil and Water Commission with 1,912 and 1,723 votes, respectively. Deborah Howe and Mary Robinette received 1,005 and 839 votes, respectively.
