Y’s annual campaign hits $41,000; $17k to go
The Montgomery County Family YMCA’s annual fundraising campaign – “The Y. For a better us.” – is designed so that everyone in Montgomery County and throughout the area has access to local programs and resources that support youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
Thus far, more than $41,000 of the $58,000 campaign goal has been raised. The 2016 campaign chair is Ava Dorrance of rural Elliott.

“Every day, the Montgomery County Family YMCA works to support the people and neighborhoods that need it most by addressing community matters, such as fitness and healthy lifestyle for all ages, chronic health issues, school partnerships, and to serve as a center for social networking,” according to a press release.
“The Y is more than a gym. It’s a cause. As a charity, we’re dedicated to nurturing the potential of every child and teen, improving the nation’s health and well-being, and giving back and providing support to our neighbors. Funds raised supported a wide range of activities from athletics, fitness, healthy living, youth development, social responsibilities to summer day camp programming. The Y doesn’t just strengthen bodies – it strengthens people, families and communities.
“Year after year, charitable gifts from YMCA donors make it possible for kids to have a safe place to learn and build confidence after school; for families to reconnect and grow together; for members of the community of all ages, access to fitness education and training to reach their full potential. The Montgomery County Family YMCA has had in place for 20 years the policy that ‘no one will be denied membership or programming opportunity due to financial limitations,’” the press release continued.
Can redemption helps
Montgomery County YMCA and the Red Oak Rotary Club are teaming up the month of July for can and bottle redemption. The YMCA will be collecting cans and bottles and using the proceeds for the YMCA’s annual campaign.
“We are asking all members to save their bottles and cans, and bring them to the Red Oak Rotary/Optimist Club Redemption Center located near the Fareway Grocery Store July 1-31,” the release said.
Golf outing
Another upcoming event is the 2016 YMCA 18-hole four-person best ball golf tournament that will take place on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Red Oak Country Club in Red Oak, with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
There will be flag prizes, betting holes, door prizes, luncheon, and even prize money for the top teams in their respective golf flights.
