YMCA 2013 4-Person golf tourney results

 The Montgomery County Family YMCA sponsored its Fall Tee 2013 Benefit Four Person Golf Tournament at the Red Oak Country Club Sept. 28. 

All proceeds from the golf tournament benefit the YMCA’s 2013 Annual Campaign that helps honor the YMCA’s long lasting policy “No one is denied YMCA membership or programming opportunities due to financial limitations.” 

Golf tournament proceeds assist the YMCA’s commitment to offer year round programs for community and area youth that need to be subsidized to allow as many children as possible participate in youth programming.

Forty players braved the early morning rainy, cool and windy weather conditions. 

By early afternoon the weather cooperated and turned out to be a great afternoon. 

Teams came from all across southwest Iowa and Nebraska to complete in the 10 team playing field. There was just one flight as some team pulled out due to the rough morning weather conditions. 

Team Hooper (Red Oak, IA) won the 18 hole tournament with a team score of 62. Second place went to Team Aqua Chem (Bellevue, Neb.) also shot a 62 but lost the playoff card score to earn runner up honors. Third place went to Team Peterson (Red Oak) with a solid score of 65. 

The YMCA was able to raise $5,380 through this event with the support of all the golfers, aid of the Red Oak Country Club and contributions from hole and prize sponsors. 

YMCA Executive Director Nick Zimmer expressed his appreciation to all the YMCA staff and volunteers that assisted in making a great day for all the golfers in the tournament.

1. Team Hooper- 62 (Red Oak) Team members: Rev. George Hooper, Darrell Fenton, Aaron Smith and Al Moore). 

2. Team Aqua Chem- 62 (Bellevue, Neb.) Team members: Scott Holtmeyer, Dan Pedersen, Bryan Holtmeyer and Nick Holtmeyer.

3. Team Peterson- 65 (Red Oak). Team members: Carroll Peterson, J.E. Spangenberg, Mike Webb and Harold Spencer.

The YMCA’s Annual Golf Tournament is also well known for the great golf, fellowship, playing a great golf course and having great sponsors, flag prizes and door prizes. This year all golfers received outstanding prizes. 

New this year the YMCA’s Golf Tournament was able to secure hole in one sponsors for a new 2013 Dodge Dart car (Red Oak Chrysler Dodge) for any golfer that would have scored a hole in one on hole No. 4 , which is a par three hole. 

There were two other par three golf holes that had hole in one prizes as well. 

Area golfers, businesses and organizations please save the date down of Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014 for next year’s event at the beautiful Red Oak Country Club.
