YMCA receives $20K donation
Nick Zimmer, YMCA Executive Director announced that Ava and Dan Dorrance of rural Red Oak, recently made a $20,000 gift to the YMCA for two worthwhile programs to assist the Montgomery County Family YMCA.
The Dorrance’s made this gift through her mother’s, the late Jean Shields of rural Elliott, estate trust. Jean and her husband Bill, now living in Omaha, Neb., were capital supporters of the YMCA, outstanding members of the YMCA, and Jean truly enjoyed the YMCA indoor lap/zero depth swimming pool along with the water aerobics programs offered through the YMCA.
$15,000 of the gift to the YMCA’s was used to assist the YMCA’s current “Future Is In Your Hands” campaign to assist the YMCA’s need to have long term maintenance funding for replacement and repair of major facility needs and equipment. This $15,000 turned into another $7,500 gift through a current incentive program established by the YMCA’s top benefactors, Charles and Norma Wilson of Red Oak. The Wilsons have agreed to give another 50% to gifts coming into the YMCA that are established for the endowment “Future Is In Your Hands” program. Thus the YMCA was able to place $22,500 of new funding into the endowment long term maintenance program, of which only the earned invested interest income can be spent to assist the YMCA’s needs for facility repairs/replacement needs. Thus the principal gift never gets spent, just the invested earned interest. So far the campaign has raised just under $370,000.
The remaining $5,000 was designated for some type water fun attraction equipment for the YMCA’s zero/depth pool entry area. Zimmer indicates with the YMCA’s research that the YMCA will need to raise another $10,000 in some fashion to be able to have a nice long lasting water attraction enhancement to the YMCA’s indoor swimming pool.
