ACCIDENTS

  • On Oct. 1, at about 8:50 a.m., Charles Misner, Elliott, was mowing a ditch on 120th Street on a 2014 John Deere 6105D tractor owned by Montgomery County Secondary Roads, when he went around a mailbox and struck a 2003 Chevy Tahoe owned and operated by Christopher Tischer, Elliott. There was no damage to the tractor, and damage to the Tischer vehicle was estimated at $500. There were no injuries, and no citations were issued.
  • On Oct. 1, at about 1:13 p.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office investigated an accident on Aspen Avenue south of 240th Street. Curtis Frazee, 32, Hastings, who was driving a New Holland Tractor owned by William Frazee, Emerson, reached for his cell phone, which had fallen off the seat, went into the ditch and hit and broke off an electric pole. The tractor continued into a cornfield. Power lines, which were lying on the grain cart that was hitched to the tractor, had to be removed by SWI Rec before treatment could be given. Frazee had injuries to his right leg and ankle and cuts from broken glass. He was transported to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital by Red Oak Rescue.
  • On Oct. 2, at about 2:20 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated an accident at the intersection of East Prospect and North 1st Streets. Duane Null, 85, Red Oak, driving a 1998 Buick LeSabre, was traveling north on North 1st Street when he entered the intersection on Prospect Street and failed to yield to a 1992 Chevrolet Blazer owned by Robert Orr and driven by Dean Orr, 36, Villisca, which was traveling west of East Prospect Street. There was a yield sign on 1st Street, and Orr said he was distracted by children playing and did not see Null’s vehicle. Orr’s vehicle had about $500 in damage, and damage to Null’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500. Null was cited for failure to yield.
