1923 Red Oak Tiger girls' to receive honors
A little piece of history will be brought to the Tigers, as the Red Oak girls’ basketball team will be receiving a banner from the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) commemorating the 1923 season.
In 1923, the Red Oak girls’ basketball team was invited to the state tournament in Audubon, which they lost in the first round to Corydon.
Helen Lamb led the team in 1922 and 1923, scoring 30 of 32 points and 48 of 49 points in two of the team’s contests over the years.
She joined Jane Edwards, Dorothy Larson, Mary Dearborn, Ruby Pehrson, Ruth Will, Minnette Nelson, Dorothy Oman, Bentha Andreen, and Lillian Snygg on the state tournament team led by head coach, Miss Ida Wallace.
The Red Oak High School athletic department is looking for anyone who may have any information on any of the players on the team, especially Helen Lamb, whom the school has nominated for the IGHSAU Hall of Fame. Anyone with information can call the school at 623-6610.
The banner will be received at 6 p.m., before the Tigers’ home opener against Shenandoah.
