Bryon Legg, 47

Bryon Legg, 47, of the Griswold and Lewis area, died Dec. 2, 2009, at his home in rural Lewis.

Bryon Legg was born at Phoenix, Ariz. on June 11, 1962, the son of Herbert Hoover and Victoria (Gonzalez) Legg. He attended school in Phoenix and when he was 14, the family moved to Payson, Ariz., where he graduated from high school. Bryon attended college on a scholarship he received to pitch baseball. He then went to work in construction and became a foreman of a crew building homes. In 1989, he went to work for his brother Herb training Greyhound dogs for racing and then in 1994 started his own kennel at Ft. Lupton, CO. In 2002, he, Linette and family moved to this area and later started a kennel here. He was a member of the National Greyhound Assoc., the Iowa Greyhound Assoc. and the National Rifle Assoc.

Shortly after moving to this area, Bryon was instrumental in getting a place for the youth of the community to play baseball and softball and was the ringleader in getting the sports complex built on the east edge of Griswold. The Griswold city council recently named the complex the “Bryon Legg Sports Complex” in his honor. 

Survivors include his fiancée of nearly 19 years, Linette Reuer of Lewis; his girls, Crystal, Chelsea, Cassidy and Certayn of Lewis; his father Herbert of Ft. Lupton, Colo.; his mother Victoria (Paul) Ely of Kentucky; brothers and sisters: Gaylynn (Phil) Breedlove of Ft. Lupton, Herb (Karen) Legg of Ft. Lupton, Lynette Tuttle of Phoenix, Ariz., and Brent Legg of Colo

Funeral services were held Dec. 5 at the Griswold Community Building in Griswold. Burial was in the Whipple Cemetery northwest of Griswold. 

The Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family with the arrangements.
