Clarence “Bud” Coykendall, 91

Clarence B. “Bud” Coykendall, 91, of Red Oak, died Nov. 24, 2009, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

Bud was born Feb. 1, 1918, in Rock Rapids, the son of Isaac and Lula Mae (Lant) Allen. When he was 6 years old he was adopted by Frank and Edith Coykendall of Shenandoah. Bud graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1936. He married Lucille Frost on April 9, 1939, in Shenandoah. They lived in Clarinda and Bud was employed by the ASC office and also the Page County Engineer. In 1956 they moved to Red Oak where Bud worked for the Department of Transportation retiring in 1981. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the CCC Sunday School Class, and an active member of the Masons, Blue Lodge, Chapter, Council, and Commandry for over 50 years. He was Past Grand Chaplain of the Chapter. He was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his daughter: Linda Curry; grandson: Michael Neal Curry; and great granddaughters: Mercedes Skye Akers and Camryn Elizabeth Davidson. Survivors include his wife: Lucille Coykendall of Red Oak; daughter: Donna (Ted) Barten of Sheridan, Wyo.; son-in-law: Neal Curry of Grant; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Nov. 28 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery. Masonic Rites were held during the funeral service.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church.
