County gets 5 bids for courthouse roof

The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors took a step forward with plans to replace the aging courthouse roof.

During a special Board of Supervisors meeting Feb. 11, the supervisors reviewed five bids from area roofers looking to snag the roofing project. The existing roof is more than 30 years old and has outlived its projected life span.

Discussion began on the project over two years ago, but was delayed while waiting for an insurance claim after heavy hail damage to the roof.

A base bid was submitted  by the roofers, with separate bids given for alternate portions of the project. Architect Derrick O’Neal with Alley Poynter Macchietto Architecture has been coordinating the project with the supervisors.

O’Neal advised the base bid for the project includes replacing all of the slate roof with new slate roofing, a drip edge into the gutter, and an ice and water shield.

The first base bid for the project was from Weatherguard for $924,642.

Renaissance Roofing offered a base bid of $518,500.

Roof Tech did not submit a base bid, but offered bids for alternate elements of the project.

Ten Men Roofing LLC’s base bid was $477,000. 

Skyline Roofings’ base was  $795,000.
