Curtis E. Hoaglund, 79

Curtis E. Hoaglund, 79, of Sandwich, Ill., formerly of Red Oak, passed away, Feb. 24, 2011, at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, Ill.

He was born Nov. 14, 1931 in Red Oak, the son of Carl and Helen (Herron) Hoaglund. Curtis (Hoagie) graduated from Stanton High School in 1949 and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.  He retired from Burlington Northern Railroad after 38 years of service. An avid camper, Hoagie enjoyed the outdoors and would frequently come back in his camper to visit the area where he grew up.  Each year, Hoagie would get a season ticket to the Sandwich Fair and loved spending time each day there. He also enjoyed football, dog races, card playing and especially his family. Hoagie was a familiar face as he rode his bicycle around Sandwich. He was also a member of the Sandwich Moose and Plano American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter in infancy, Teresa Ann, and his former wife Geraldine Hoaglund.
Curtis is survived by his six children, Debra (Gerald) Kell of Sandwich, Ill., Denise Wetzstein of Radcliff, Ky., David Hoaglund of Sandwich, Ill., Diana (Donald) Pagakis of Earlville, Ill., Dana (Jim) Patrick of Herndon, Va., and Derek (Denise) Hoaglund of Rockton, Ill.; nine grandsons, Nicholas, Nathaniel and Curtis Wetzstein, Shane Hoaglund, Ryan Kell, Justin and Joshua Steinhour, Matthew and Jacob Hoaglund; three step-grandsons, Cory and Cody Pagakis, and James Patrick; and seven great grandchildren.  Also surviving are three sisters – Kathryn (Arnold) Anderson of Stanton; Beatrice Brown of Austin, Texas; and Charleen Kimbrell of Independence, Mo.  
A Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m. on March 2, 2011, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Sandwich with Reverend David Kaul officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the time of service.
