Donations volunteers needed for holiday dinner

RED OAK — The Montgomery County Family YMCA is hosting the third annual Community Thanks-giving Dinner on Nov. 25.
The event takes place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and is for residents who aren’t able to prepare a meal or don’t want to be alone for Thanksgiving. The meal will be offered at no charge.
The dinner will include turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green bans, salad, homemade bread and dessert.
Last year’s dinner had 105 people in the diner, while 35 meals were delivered to homes or places of work.
Residents that would like to attend the dinner or have a meal delivered can contact Rev. Caryn Pedersen at the Red Oak Presbyterian at 623-4751. Meals can be delivered to shut-ins upon request.
The best time to call is by Tuesday, Nov. 23, but they will take calls up to Thanksgiving Day. However, people will be accepted at the door.
When calling, make sure to leave a message that includes name, address, phone number, number of meals and whether they will dine in or need a delivery.
Serving and host/hostess volunteers are needed for the event for two shifts, one for 10 a.m. to noon and noon to 2 p.m.
The goal is to have 20 volunteers per shift, 10 servers and 10 host/hostesses. Several volunteers have signed up, but they are still looking for more.
Food donations are also being accepted. Food donations needed include salad and dessert dishes, as well as rolls or any type of bread. They’ve received several dishes, but need at least 15 for each.
Anyone wishing to contribute food or volunteer for the dinner should contact Crystal Berkey at 623-6900.
Berkey will take food donation calls up until Nov. 23. Those that do donate will need to bring their dish in the day of the Dinner. Calls for volunteers will be taken up to Wednesday night.
