Dorothy Carbaugh, 87
Dorothy V. Carbaugh, 87, of Red Oak, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital.
Dorothy Vernice Carbaugh was born to Carl and Vernice (Youngberg) Lantz Feb. 14, 1925, near Essex. She attended country school and later Stanton High School.
Dorothy married Donald Platt in 1942, and to this union a daughter, Betty, was born. Donald died while serving his country during World War II.
Dorothy married Clarence Carbaugh Jan. 23, 1947, in Kansas City, Mo. To this union two children were born, Peggy and Dennis. Shortly after their marriage they moved to the Stanton area where they farmed until moving into Red Oak in 1972.
Dorothy was a homemaker and worked for the Red Oak High School in the cafeteria. She was quite talented in handwork including sewing and cross stitching. She enjoyed gardening, camping and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Dorothy was also a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husbands, Donald Platt and Clarence Carbaugh; grandchildren, Jeff Grasso and Dana Grasso; and brother, Carrol Lantz.
Survivors include her children, Betty (Doug) Lantz, of Peachtree City, Ga., Peggy (John) Schantz, of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Dennis (Pam) Carbaugh, of Red Oak; grandchildren, Tracy (Fred) Halvin, of Austin, Minn., Andy (Elina) Lantz, of Peachtree City, Angie (Jacques) Beveridge, of Cheyenne, Shannon (Sheryl) Bergren, of Fairfield, Jessica Pierson and Michael Paris, of Madison, Neb., David (Leslie) Carbaugh, of Omaha, Dionne Binau, of Essex, Christi (Aaron) Johnson, of Red Oak, Kimberly (Chris) Mosier, of Essex, and Mandy (Nick) Christensen, of Cumberland; many great-grandchildren; sisters, Marjorie Erickson, of Stanton, and Jean (Robert) Lofgren, of Red Oak; sisters-in-law, Jean Ratcliff and Columbia Magnuson, of Red Oak; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services took place Saturday, April 21, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial was in the Mamre Cemetery in Stanton. Visitation with the family was Friday, April 20, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
