Essex resident charged in deaths from November accident

RED OAK — Charges have been filed against an Essex teen in connection with a head-on collision, last November.

Karli Brown, 18, of Essex, was charged with two counts of motor vehicle homicide (Class C Felony and one count serious injury by a motor vehicle (Class D Felony) on Tuesday for her role in a crash that killed two children from Cumberland and injured another person on Nov. 28.

Brown, according to court records, was driving 74 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone and passing in a ”No Passing Zone” when she collided head-on into a 2001 Kia Spectra driven by Nina McNeese that was traveling northbound on Highway 48, about four miles south of Red Oak.

The collision killed McNeese's two sons, Maliki Todd, 5, and Alex Todd, 4.

McNeese and Brown were both injured and airlifted to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha for treatment.

Brown has posted a $10,000 bond and was released from jail. A preliminary hearing has been set for May 10 at the Montgomery County Court House.
