Essex-South Page drops two in battle of the shared teams with Nishnabotna
ESSEX — The Nishnabotna Blue Devils came out of their meeting with the Essex-South Page Trojans and Trojanettes with two wins Friday.
Both teams have perked the curiosity of the Corner Conference considering that they are both made up of multiple teams who were independent in 2009.
In the softball game, the Blue Devils, who are made up of Hamburg and Farragut, jumped out to an 8-0, capitalizing on six Trojanette errors, before Essex-South Page was able to bat.
“It was a pretty rough inning,” Essex-South Page Coach Amanda Wooten said. “When you get into that kind of hole, you just have to keep trying to dig your way out.”
The Trojanettes were out-hit 9-8 in the 15-3 loss, and commited only one more error in the final four innings.
The Trojanettes have only two starters who are coming from South Page.
In the late game, the Essex-South Page boys were hoping to continue their hot bats after winning their season opener over Murray, 16-2 in five innings.
Nishnabotna’s Carroll Heitshuesen shut down the Essex offense, in the Blue Devil 11-2 win, even after walking six batters.
The Trojans struggled to hit with runners in scoring position, leaving the bases loaded once, and stranding five other runners on base.
“You just can’t leave that many guys out there if you want to win games,” Essex-South Page Head Coach Luke Burning said. “That was a rough way to lose a game.
