Evelyn “Peg” Embree, 83

Evelyn “Peg” Embree, 83, of rural Elliott, passed away on Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at her home in rural Elliott.
Evelyn Mae “Peg” Embree, the daughter of Harry and Gail (Ashburn) Euans was born May 18, 1927, in Sherman Township of Montgomery County. Peg was raised in the Elliott area and graduated from Elliott High School. She has always been a country gal, living on a farm her entire life. Peg was united in marriage to Marvin D. Embree on Feb. 1, 1948 in Red Oak, Iowa. She worked in a doctor’s office before their children were born, when at that time she became a full-time homemaker. Peg was also active in helping Marvin on the farm. Later, she worked part-time at the apple orchard in Griswold. Peg was a great cook and always had fresh baked cookies for family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards, board games and traveling with the family during summer vacations.
Peg was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and four sisters.
Peg is survived by two children: Allen D. Embree of Massena; and Carla Nielsen and husband Mike of Treynor; five grandchildren: Melissa and Sarah Nielsen; Stefany Erickson and husband Travis; Libby Butcher and husband Justin; and Walker Embree; two step-grandchildren: Ryan Jensen and Jessica McClaskey; two great-grandchildren: Brody Erickson and Payton Butcher; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and a host of friends.

Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at the Elliott Community Center from noon until 2 p.m.
Private family burial will be at a later date in Hillside Cemetery in Elliott.
