Friday Football: 8-man Week 4 Preview

Here is a preview for the 8-man District 8 games taking place Friday night.

Stanton at Boyer Valley

The Vikings are the only team playing a non-district game this week. Stanton is coming off of a bye.

Stanton has lost two straight district games. Their most recent loss (64-30) was Sept. 6 against Lenox.

With homecoming next week against Fremont-Mills, Stanton will try to get back on track versus Boyer Valley.

After winning week 0 against Kingsley-Pierson, Boyer Valley has lost three straight games, including last week against Coon Rapids-Bayard 40-20.

Alex Becthold will be a player to watch for Stanton. Becthold has 39 total tackles this season and four tackles for a loss.

Cody Thoreson will be the player to watch for Boyer Valley. The junior quarterback has 511 yards passing with eight touchdowns and five interceptions this season.

Last season, Boyer Valley defeated Stanton 52-0.           

Southwest Valley at CAM

Southwest Valley easily won its homecoming game last week and now they take on a CAM team that has lost three of its first four games.

Southwest Valley is 2-1 in the district. They defeated Nishnabotna 51-14 last week.

Zach Barton continues to lead the charge for the Timberwolves. His 500 yards rushing is second most in district 8.

CAM meanwhile is coming off of a 45-34 loss against Fremont-Mills. They have also lost to Adair-Casey and River Valley. A loss to Southwest Valley Friday night would put CAM at 1-2.

Trace Ticknor as the player to watch for CAM. Ticknor leads the team in rushing with 408 yards. Dylan Amdor could also be a player to watch. Amdor leads the district in receiving yards (430) and touchdowns (six).

Fremont-Mills at Essex/South Page

The Knights recovered from their week 0 loss to West Harrison by defeating both Whitling and CAM. They will try for three in a row as they face Essex/South Page in Essex.

ESP had a bye last week, which came at a good time. They're off to an 0-3 start and have scored just 22 points during that time. Their most recent loss took place Sept. 6 when they lost 72-0 to Coon Rapids-Bayard.

Jason Rusten leads the Fremont-Mills offense. The sophomore quarterback has 264 yards passing and five touchdowns this season.

Jacob Jones will be the player to watch for ESP. Jones leads the team in rushing yards with 165.

ESP lost to Fremont-Mills last season, 75-16.

Lenox at Nishnabotna

Both teams are coming off blowout losses in week 3. Lenox will try to stay in the top half of the group and get back on track with a win. They play a Nishnabotna team that has yet to win a game though.

The player to watch will be Lenox's Caleb Lange. The defensive standout leads the district in total tackles (48) and sacks (six).

Andrew Welch is also a player to watch for. The Nishnabotna running back has 455 yards rushing and five touchdowns this season.

Lenox defeated Nishnabotna last season, 58-12.
