Griswold’s Topham to enter four running events at Drake Relays this weekend

DES MOINES — Griswold track and cross country athlete Rebekah Topham will be competing in the Drake Relays, held in Des Moines, starting Thursday and going through Saturday.

Topham will be competing in four events at the famed track meet. The freshman will be competing in the 800, 1,500 and 3,000-meter races, as well as the 400-meter hurdles.

Topham has won multiple titles thus far this season and has posted some of the fastest times of the season in the state.

Topham is in fact coming off of a weekend in Lawrence, Kan., competing at the Kansas Relays.

Schools from Southwest Iowa sending athletes to the Drake Relays include Glenwood, Fremont-Mills, Denison-Schleswig, Harlan, Carroll, Corning and Treynor.

The high school events all begin Thursday afternoon.

Topham’s first race will take place that day when she competes in the finals of the 3,000-meter run.

Her next race won’t be until Friday afternoon when she competes in the 800-meter finals.

Last season, Griswold, as well as Villisca, were the area representatives for the Drake Relays.

Griswold sent a 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 relay team, as well as Lauren Moore and Rachel Northrup, who competed in the 400-meter hurdles.

Both the 400 hurdles and the 1500 will take place Saturday afternoon.
