Herman Abraham, 86

Herman D. “Abe” Abraham, 86, of Council Bluffs, died Sept. 1, 2012, at Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs.

Abe was born to the late Herman and Anna L. (Bjorn) Abraham March 8, 1926, in Red Oak. He attended school in Red Oak.

Abe served his country in the U.S. Merchant Marines and Coast Guard during World War II.

Abe married Marjorie Bishop Nov. 17, 1948, in Red Oak.

He served on the Red Oak Police Department and Fire Department before working as a plant guard for Western Electric in Omaha. After his retirement, Abe worked at Council Bluffs Savings Bank and Grace Bible College.

Abe was a member of Valley View Baptist Church, honorary life member of Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police and Peace Officers, Inc., Police Officers Association of Nebraska, Iowa Firemen's Association, AF&AM #162 in Red Oak and lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Handyman Club of America.

In addition to his parents, Abe is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Madison Abraham, and his sister, Margaret Buckley.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marge Abraham; daughters, Susan J. (David) Anson and Paula M. (Tom) Houvenagle, of Council Bluffs; sons, Russ (Linda) Abraham, of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Mike (Geri) Abraham, of Colorado Springs; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Visitation with the family is Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 6-8 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral service will take place Thursday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m., at the mortuary with Rev. Thomas Shirley officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak, with military rites.

Memorials are suggested to Asera Care Hospice, American Red Cross or Risen Son Christian Village. Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
