French’s big night leads Stanton to win

Piper French poured in a season-high 22 points and Stanton cruised to a 59-33 win over Essex in Corner Conference girls basketball Friday in Stanton.
The Viqueens (2-10 overall, 2-6 in the conference) jumped out to a 16-8 first quarter lead and saw that lead swell to 29-14 in the victory.
French connected on 9-of-18 shots and grabbed six rebounds and six steals. Lauren Roberts scored eight points and Leilanie Foster-Saye  and Cooper Stephens scored seven points each.
Mariska Kirchert scored 14 to lead Essex.

Shenandoah 69,
Stanton 37
Kalyn Scamman scored 25 points and Ava O’Rourke 21 to lead Shenandoah to a 69-37 win in nonconference girls basketball Thursday.
The Fillies jumped out to a 35-14 halftime lead on their way to the win.
Piper French  scored 15 points and Cooper Stephens added nine to lead Stanton.

Bedford 52,
Stanton 25
Bedford downed Stanton 52-25 in Corner Conference girls basketball last Tuesday.
Sidney Strong scored 13 points and Paisley Sleep added 10 points for the Bulldogs.
Piper French led Stanton with nine points while Cooper Stephens added six.

Sidney 45,
Essex 17
A 13-0 second quarter run helped Sidney to a 45-17 victory over Essex in Corner Conference girls basketball last Tuesday.
Kaelynn Hale scored 14 points and Addyson Foster 13 to lead Sidney.
Kylie Valdez led Essex with seven points. Mariska Kirchert pulled down 17 rebounds.

Diagonal 41,
Essex 18
Essex got off to a slow start offensively and couldn’t dig out of a 24-9 halftime hole in a 41-18 loss to Diagonal in nonconference girls basketball last Monday.
Kylie Valdez scored six points and Alia Valdez added four points to lead the Trojans.
Candance Shiflett led Diagonal with 12 points.
