Red Oak boys second, girls ninth at Glenwood meet

The Red Oak boys were the runners up and the girls were ninth at the 51st annual Glennwood Invitational Cross Country Meet at Glenwood Lake Park Saturday.
Council Bluffs Lewis Central won the boys title with a team score of 70, eight points better than the Tigers’ 78.
The Titans took the top two individual spots with Evan Lillie running a 15:32 for first, followed by teammate Kevin Coots in 15:43.
The Tigers’ Emmanuel Grass was third with a time of 16:18 followed closely by fifth place teammate Hayden Heitbrink.. Heitbrink ran a 16:41.
Osiel Pedersen added an 18th place finish, Casey Johnson was 23rd and Bryce Williams finished 29th.
“Our goal is to get them by the Hawkeye 10 Conference meet,” said Red Oak coach Suann French of the Tigers’ close finish behind the Titans. “We know they can do it. Coach (Weston) Rolenc and I are super pleased with their mental strength this morning from both boys and girls.”
On the girls’ side, Harlan topped the field with a team score of 50.
Lili Denton ran away with the individual crown, running a 17:09 to edge runner up Grace Berglund of Glenwood’s time of 18:44.
The Red Oak girls tallied 247 points.
Marlee Perrien paced the Tigers with a 47th place finish time of 24:16.
Cate Horn added a 64th place finish, Leya Walker was 72nd, Gillian Heim was 79th and Gabby Smith 91st.
“I’m super proud of the girls today,” French said. “Everyone had a PR (personal record) and raced well. We were mentally tough today and it showed in their times.”
The Essex and East Mills teams both competed in Glenwood, with neither program having the requisite runners to compete in the team standings.
Essex was led by Ella Sandahl’s 20th place finish time of 21:39. Jesse Johnson paced the Trojan boys with a 67th place finish (20:56).
Brock Ripperger led the East Mills boys with his 84th place showing while Sophia Housh ran a 24:25 to lead the Wolverine girls with a 49th place finish.

Tigers top field at Shenandoah ‘Early Bird’ meet
Red Oak’s Emmanuel Grass won top individual honors, and the Tigers captured the boys team title at the Shenandoah Early Bird Invitational Cross Country Meet last Tuesday at Shenandoah High School.
The Tigers, behind Grass’ first place finish time of 16:52, tallied 44 points to easily outpace the runner up Mustangs.
“Coach Rolenc and I are thrilled with the results,” said Red Oak head coach Sueann French. “The boys battled, and some new boys really stepped up. It was a great win for Emmanuel and the team.”
Hayden Hietbrink added a fifth-place finish, Osiel Pedersen was ninth, Casey Johnson was 17th, and Manuel DeLeon was 27th.
Harlan won the girls team title with a score of 34. Treynor was the runner up with a 47.
Running without Marlee Perrien due to an injury, the Red Oak girls did not qualify in the team standings but had some strong times.
Cate Horn led the Tigers with a 39th place finish followed Leya Walker in 52nd, Gillian Heim in 60th and Gabby Smith in 65th.
Essex’s Ella Sandahl finished 13th in the girls race with a time of 22.28. The Trojans’ Ashon Kline was 34th with a time of 21:20.
All five of Stanton’s runners set personal-best times in Shenandoah. Lauren Roberts led the Viqueens with a 49th place finish time of 27:04. Meredith Roberts added a 51st place finish.
On the boys side, Stanton’s Jayden Snow led the way with a time of 20:38 and a 25th place finish. Eric Kutzli finished 68th and Grant Spencer was 72nd.
The East Mills boys were paced by Landon Gibbs’ 52nd place finish (23:30). Anderson Bakehouse and Brock Ripperger followed up with a 56th and 58th place finishes, respectively. The Wolverines’ Caitlyn Crouse ran a 25:54 to finish 29th in the girls race.
