Red Oak Girls Tennis Competes at Class 1A Individual Regional Tournament
The Red Oak girls tennis team traveled to Atlantic last Wednesday for the Class 1A Individual Regional Tennis Tournament.
The Tigers competed hard in singles and doubles, with Ana Torres reaching the top 10 for the second consecutive year, according to Red Oak coach Luis MacDonald.
Torres opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Glenwood’s Sophia Stroud. She then defeated Southwest Valley’s Fiona McDaniel in straight sets before facing Bishop Heelan’s Bella Esquivel.
Torres fell in straight sets after a tough match, closing out another strong regional performance that showed how much her game continues to grow, MacDonald said.
In doubles, the Tigers’ Anna Butz and BreeAnna Cech played together for the first time and showed good chemistry against Atlantic’s Hawkeye 10 runners-up. Atlantic won in straight sets.
Red Oak’s No. 2 doubles team of Emma Wingert and Bella Kling also put together a strong effort against Bishop Heelan before falling in straight sets.
Red Oak now turns its attention to the Regional Team Tournament. The Tigers fadce Shenandoah on Saturday, September 26, with a chance to advance. Information from that tournament will be in next week’s Red Oak Express.
