Stanton 1-3 at Lewis Central tournament

The Stanton volleyball team finished 1-3 at the Council Bluffs Lewis Central Invitational Volleyball Tournament Saturday.
The Viqueens (4-3) picked up a 21-12, 21-13 win over Stanton and took losses to Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln 21-16, 21-13, Tri-Center 23-21, 8-21, 4-15 and the host Titans, 21-13, 21-11.
“Today was a great opportunity for our team to compete, grow, and learn together,” said Stanton coach John Mainquist. “While we finished 1-3 on the day, I was proud of the way our girls continued to battle and support one another from the first serve to the last. Our win over Omaha Bryan showed what we are capable of when we play with confidence, energy, and purpose.”
Addison Jones led the Viqueens with 13 kills on the day.
Haylee Joint paced the offense with 27 set assists.
“I continue to see this team becoming more connected and committed to playing with each other, for each other,” Mainquist went on to say. “We had contributions from many different players throughout the day, and that kind of balance and unselfish play will continue to be a strength for us. We will take the lessons from today, continue to work, and come back ready to get better together.”

Stanton 3-0 in home quadrangular
Stanton posted wins over Lenox, Mount Ayr and Shenandoah in a season-opening home quadrangular last Tuesday.
“The team showed strong consistency, competed with confidence, and continued to find ways to make plays when they mattered most,” said Stanton coach John Mainquist.
In the 25-15, 25-12 win over Lenox, Stanton controlled the match from start to finish with solid serving, defense, and a balanced attack, according to Mainquist.
“The team carried that momentum into a close match with Mount Ayr, battling through a tight first set before finishing strong in the second,” Mainquist said of the 27-25, 25-16 win over Mount Ayr.
In the final match against Shenandoah, the Viqueens showed their resilience in a 25-19. 19-25, 15-10 victory.
“After splitting the first two sets, we came together and played with determination to take the deciding set, 15-10,” Mainquist said.
Leilanie Foster-Saye led the attack with eight kills in the win over the Fillies while Haylee Joint contributed 14 assists and 13 digs. Gabi Grebin also provided a spark from the service line with four aces.
“Overall, the biggest takeaway was the team’s ability to compete, stay composed, and respond to challenges,” Mainquist said. “Going 3-0 on the night is a great accomplishment, and the Viqueens can be proud of the teamwork and effort they displayed throughout all three matches.”
