SW Valley 11th, Red Oak 14th at John J. Harris invite

Southwest Valley finished 11th and Red Oak 14th at the 71st annual John J. Harris Boys Wrestling Invitational in Atlantic Saturday.
The host Trojans won the meet with two champions and three runners-up and a team score of 230.5. Riverside was the runner after scoring 209 points.
Southwest Valley compiled 73 points for 11th.
Degan Farwell (113 pounds) and Gavin Wetzel (175) were both second to lead the Timberwolves.
Farwell pinned his first two opponents to reach the finals where he was pinned by Winterset’s Sebastian Brooks. Wetzel lost a tough 4-2 decision to Wayne’s Austin Henderson in the finals.
Griffin Wetzel added a fifth place finish and Hoyt Mendenhall (120) was sixth.
The Tigers had two medal winners in Atlantic with Dayton Gusman (150 pounds) placing fifth and Oliver Dykes (285) finishing fourth.
Dykes pinned his first two opponents to reach the semifinals before falling to Nodaway Valley’s Ashton Honnold. The junior battled back in the consolation bracket to battle AC/GC’s Jack Sheeder for third place. Sheeder went on to win in a first period fall.
Gusman recorded a technical fall and two pins on the day. He notched a 13-2 major decision over Centerville’s Ben Blizek for fifth fifth-place.

Red Oak drooped a pair of matches at a Hawkeye 10 Conference wrestling dual in Harlan Thursday.
The Tigers dropped matches to Kuemper Catholic 42-30 and the host Cyclones, 54-18.
Dayton Gusman (150) won a pair of matches by fall and Oliver Dykes (285) had a fall and a forfeit on his undefeated night.
