Timberwolves’ winning streak snapped on road

Southwest Valley saw its four-game win streak snapped at Martensdale St. Marys with a 48-36 loss in Pride of Iowa Conference girls basketball last Monday.
“We did a lot of things right tonight and hustled as we have all year,” said Southwest Valley coach Mike Cormack. “But, we got in early foul trouble and just did not shoot the ball as we have in other games. That happens sometimes in basketball. The girls tried hard and that is all I can ask for.”
The “big picture” for Cormack is his team was 1-8 team heading into break last year and are now 7-2 this year with their two losses on the road against eight- and nine-win teams.
“I am still really proud of my team and expect big things in the second half of the season,” Cormack said.
Mackenzie Fast led the Timberwolves with 12 points. Hailey Randall added nine points while Ada Lund added eight.
The Timberwolves Junior Varsity won their two quarters game versus the Blue Devils by a 14-7 score. Both coaches were impressed by how hard the team worked against a team that also did the same. The junior varsity heads into break with a 5-1 record.
