Irvin Achieves Certified Diabetes Educator Renewal
Michelle Irvin, a registered licensed dietitian with the Diabetes Education Center at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, has achieved renewal of her Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) status by successfully completing the continuing education renewal option process. Candidates must meet rigorous eligibility requirements to be eligible for certification. Achieving the CDE credential demonstrates to people with diabetes and employers that the healthcare professional possesses distinct and specialized knowledge, thereby promoting quality of care for people living with diabetes. Irvin has held her CDE status since 1994. Other members of the MCMH Diabetes Education Center that have achieved CDE status are Paula Odefey, RN and Marsha Bierbaum, RN.
The Diabetes Education Center at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital is recognized by the American Diabetes Association and celebrated its 12th year of diabetes education in March of 2009. Not only does the MCMH Diabetes Education Center provide learning for persons with diabetes, the Center also extends professional resources to nurses, dietitians, local business and industry.
