Jane C. Smith, 89
Jane C. Smith, 89, of Red Oak, died on April 24, 2009, at her home in Red Oak.
Jane Carson Smith, the daughter of Earl W. and Lucille (Price) Carson was born Dec. 16, 1919, in Moberly, Mo.
Jane was raised in Topeka, Kan. She graduated from Topeka High School in l938. Jane attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, and Grinnell College. Following graduation, she worked 10 years in the State Department for the United States Government in Washington D.C. Jane was united in marriage to Dr. Rodmond Smith on Aug. 2, 1947, in Marshalltown. They moved to Red Oak in l952. Jane was a member of the Red Oak First United Methodist Church; Red Oak Country Club; P.E.O. Chapter HB; and Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, where she was a past president. For 17 years, Jane had also served as chairman for the Red Cross Blood Mobile in Red Oak.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister: Betty Purtzer.
Jane is survived by two sons: David A. Smith and wife Wanda of Broomfield, Colo. and Jeff Smith of Elliott; and brother-in-law: Jean W. Purtzer of Greenfield.
Funeral Service will be held on April 28 at 2 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home with burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak. Rev. Fred Pilecki will officiate.
Visitation with the family present was held on April 27 at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home.
