Join ‘Healthiest State Walk’ here
The Live Well Montgomery County Committee is calling upon residents of Montgomery County to join hundreds of thousands of Iowans to support the Healthiest State Walk initiative on Oct. 4.
There are participants in the walk in all of Iowa’s 99 counties, according the statewide organizers.
This year’s walk aims to help people “get your walk on” and get people together to walk for 30 minutes – just 30 minutes of physical activity each day improves physical, social, and emotional health.
“Live Well Montgomery County is excited to partake in the Healthiest State Walk as it represents a commitment to our residents’ well being. We look forward to not only walking together on Oct. 4, but also initiating a cultural shift towards more activity,” a press release said.
The walk is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is no registration.
“Walk in your neighborhood, the Montgomery County Family YMCA, The Viking Center, on the Red Oak Trail, at your work place or anyplace that you feel comfortable,” the release said. “Even if you are not able to join our organized walk, we encourage you to go for a 30 minute stroll sometime during the day to support the goal to make Iowa a healthier state.”
Before the Oct. 4 walk, people can get a chance to win $1,000 for the community by:
• Posting a photo of yourself or with friends walking on Facebook, Twitter or Insta-gram; or
• Using the hashtags #LiveWellMontgomeryCounty and #GetYourWalkOn; or
• Tagging the Healthiest State Initiative on social media for recognition.
