Leona F. Hedlund, 71

Leona Faye Hedlund, 71, from Emerson, died on April 8, 2009 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.

Leona Hedlund, the oldest of eight children of Margaret Ellen (Stogdill) and Warren Leonard Stogdill, was born in Lancaster, Mo. on May 29, 1937. When Leona was three years old, her family moved to Bloomfield where she attended school. Following school Leona and Jack Hanshaw were married. Their marriage was blessed with seven children; Lonnie, Joe, Doug, Stacy, Debbie, Brian and Michael. Jack and Leona later divorced.

On June 28, 1974, Leona and Lloyd Earl “Red” Hedlund of Emerson were united in marriage in Pacific Junction. They made their home in Emerson along with Leona’s younger children.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents; stepsons, Claude and Darrel Hedlund; brother Danny Stogdill and sister Lana Harding.

She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Hedlund of Emerson; her sons, Lonnie Hanshaw, Joe (Pam) Hanshaw, all of Council Bluffs, Doug (Deb) Hanshaw of Omaha, Neb., Stacy Hanshaw of Shelby, Brian (Kim) Hanshaw of Villisca, Michael (Quanda) Hanshaw of Mitchell,S.D.; daughter Debbie (Steve) Johnson of Joplin, Mo.; stepchildren, Lloyd (Rosie) Hedlund, Jr., Cheryl (Kevin) Trigg, all of Moorcroft, Wyo., Paul Hedlund of Emerson; step-daughter-in-law Ruth Hedlund of Shelby; sisters, Ann (Jim) Pickle Mt. Pleasant, Nina Wages of Ottumwa; brothers, Bud (Shari) Stogdill, Gary (Jenny) Stogdill, all of Nicholasville, Ky., James (Linda) Stogdill of St. James, Mo.; sister-in-law Deb Stogdill of Hawkins, Texas; 30 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on April 14 at 10 a.m. at Hertz Funeral Home at 208 E. 4th St., Malvern.
