Michael D. Smith, 65

Michael David Smith, 65, passed away on Dec. 8, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center.

Michael was born on Nov. 7, 1945, in Red Oak, the son of Bette Kinser and Raymond Smith. He graduated from Griswold High School. He attended Iowa State University and graduated from Drake University with a BS degree.  Michael had lived in the Des Moines area 40 years. He was a CPA , who currently worked as First Vice President of Finance at Liberty Bank.  Michael was very active in his children’s and grandchildren’s sport activities. He loved sushi, traveling, reading, watching movies, the ocean and attending NASCAR races.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Vernon Smith.
Michael is survived by his children, Mikki Smith of Johnston, Wendi Smith (Alex Richmond) of Ankeny and Chad (Laura) Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Brianna, Samantha and Luke Smith and his sister, Debbie (Harrold) Annett and her family of Des Moines.
Memorial contributions may be directed to his family, to be used towards his grandchildren’s education.
A memorial gathering was held Dec. 11 at Iles Funeral Homes – Dunn’s Chapel. Cremation rites have been accorded.
