National Guard commander to deliver Veteran's Day address

RED OAK — An attorney and colonel in the Iowa National Guard who served two tours of duty overseas will deliver the keynote address at Thursday’s Veterans Day services in Red Oak.
Col. Greg Hapgood, a native of Marion, Iowa, will speak at the 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services in the Red Oak High School and Middle School, respectively.
Col Hapgood, a native of Marion, enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard in January 1986. He graduated from Army Basic and Advanced Individual Training, Officer Candidate School, Signal Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Combined Arms and Services Staff School and Command and General Staff College.
He has commanded the 135th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment and Joint Forces Headquarters for the Iowa Naitonal Guard, and was previously deployed for Operation Joint Endeavor in 1996-97 and Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2009-2010.
After graduating from the University of Iowa, and Creighton University School of Law, he worked as a lawyer in Des Moines before his seleciton as the National Guard Public Affiars Officer in November 2003.
At both ceremonies, Court of Honor Chairman Clint Rubey will issue the call to attention, followed by the posting of colors and playing of the national anthem.
Additional music will be perfored, followed by the placing of wreaths, honor guard salute, and playing of TAPS.
