Ives Hoyt receives posthumous honor from RO Optimist Club

The Red Oak Optimist Club recently paid tribute to Rose Ives Hoyt, a former member of Red Oak law enforcement at Red Oak’s recent National Night Out event with the Don Maher Memorial Hall of Fame award.
The Optimist Club of Red Oak has been a friend of youth and serving the community since its inception in 1964. For 60 years, the club has supported the community in such programs as five-star sports, scholarships, assistance for community efforts, and a variety of other activities.
Dan Crouse, who currently serves as the Vice President of the club, said that since 1982, it has participated in the Optimist Club’s Respect for Law program, a cornerstone of the club’s philosophy as a community service organization.
“This is the fourth most popular Optimist activity, and more than 1,500 clubs are participating each year. It’s an honor to be part of the National Night Out program, and it is a privilege to add our award to the recognition ceremony,” Crouse said.
“This recognition, named after a charter member and first recipient of this honor, is presented upon a selected member of law enforcement who has served the community and, in most cases, has retired from such service.”
 Don Maher was a former Red Oak police chief,\ and spent countless hours working overnight security during the Montgomery County Fair. Crouse said Ives Hoyt served law enforcement families in a few different positions in her career.
“Rose Ives Hoyt grew up expressing a desire to be in law enforcement. She always had a huge zest for life, but was never timid about anything. At 18 years old, she went to work for the Cass County Jailers, was a reserve police officer and eventually a police officer for Red Oak and Glenwood from 2012 to 2017,” advised Crouse. “When she became an Iowa State Patrol Trooper, she was respected for learning how to handle her responsibilities in a professional manner. She supported her blue family in any way she could. Her favorite place to be was patrolling in the dark to remove those that could cause harm to others.”
Ives Hoyt served until taking medical retirement April 15, 2024. In 2005, Rose married Robert Ives of Stanton and helped raise his four sons. In 2008, they were blessed with their daughter, Bella. On May 4, 2022, Ives Hoyt met Jess Hoyt and started a great relationship. They married on Nov. 17, 2023, and enjoyed life while sharing camping, boating, farm life, traveling, and many social activities with her family and her friends.
“After a second battle with illness, she passed away May 7, 2024. The Optimist Club  is proud to present the 2025 Don Maher Memorial Hall of Fame Award posthumously to the family of ISP Trooper Rose Ives. A plaque recognizing the past recipients is displayed with honor at the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center in Red Oak,” Crouse said.
Crouse then presented the award to members of Ives Hoyt’s family, Jess and Tegan Hoyt.
