Old Car Days cruises in to Red Oak

The 49th annual Classis Chassis Old Car Days car show was once again a success.
This year’s show, in memory of member Ron Hindley, once again took place in an around Fountain Square Park. Classis Chassis Car Club Secretary Gloria Thompson said despite the early threats of rain, car enthusiasts from all around took part.
“We had a solid turnout this year. We had 110 cars out there, not counting the Classy Chassis Car Club host cars. It was raining during the initial set-up, but then in cleared, so that’s a really good show turnout for the weather we had to begin with,” said Thompson.
Thompson said she and the other members of the Classy Chassis Car Club love putting on the show every year for some important reasons.
“We love seeing the people enjoying it and we love being able to work together and put it on as a club. Our club’s like family. The Stanleys and my husband Norm and I have been in the club for 49 years. We’re just a little club, but we’re hoping to keep getting some newer, younger members. In fact, we added a new member to our roster during the show on Saturday,” stated Thompson.
Thompson said while there’s a variety of cars to choose from, there’s one particular class she likes.
“I like the older cars. My husband drives a 1941 and I like the 1934s and the 1941s, which are kind of going out. I also like the eleventh generation Ford Thunderbird. We had one at this year’s show. Unfortunately, the way the prices of autos are going up, muscle cars are in and the older antiques cars are going out because it’s too hard to find the parts, so we’re seeing less of them each year,” commented Thompson.
Thompson added that there are a lot of people that help make the show a success beyond the club.
“I just want to express my appreciation to everybody. We had a good show that our club pulls together and City of Red Oak helps a lot as well as the Red Oak Chamber and Industry Association. Every year it turns out to be a successful show because of all of the people that come together to make it possible and because of all the people coming and seeing it. Next year will be our 50th year of putting on the show and I’m already looking forward to it,” explained Thompson.
