Golf Recap: Red Oak’s season ends, Griswold advances
RED OAK — The Red Oak girls’ golf team ended their season at the first round of regionals last Monday at the Red Oak Country Club.
The team finished sixth with a score of 517. Atlantic won the meet with 384, with Shenandoah finishing second with 424.
Red Oak’s top golfer was Lauren Gilbert, who shot a 122. Shelbie Perez was one stroke back with a 123, while Reilley Black had a 134. Sadie Uhlenberg shot a 138 and Belle Perkins finished with a 167.
It was the final meet for Perez, Black and Uhlenberg, who are all seniors.
Griswold Regional Golf
The Griswold girls team meanwhile finished second at last Monday’s first round regional meet at the Crestwood Hills Golf Course in Anita.
The team finished with a score of 448, three strokes back of the regional winner CAM.
Marlia Rossell and Hattie Dalke both had top five finishes. Rossell shot a 103, while Dalke had a 107. Mateya Peters shot a 114, while Reaghan Oakleaf recorded a 124. Karley Keiser was the final golfer with a 126.
Griswold competed in the regional final at Crestwood Hills again Tuesday. Results weren’t available as of press time.
Griswold boys
It’s back to the state meet for the Griswold boys’ golf team.
Griswold finished second in the district meet Friday with a score of 317, three shots behind the district champions Earlham.
The Tigers had three golfers place in the top 10, including James Reynolds, who shot a 75 to finish tied for fourth.
Treighton Oakleaf and Jake Reynolds both tied for eighth with a score of 78.
Tyler Wyman had an 86, while Jacob Lewis shot an 88. Joe Schoning finished with a 95.
Griswold will be joining such schools as Bishop Garrigan, Alta-Aurelia, New London, East Buchanan, Starmont and Grundy Center at state.
The meet will take place Friday and Saturday at the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown. The tee time for Friday will be 10:30 a.m.
Last season, Griswold finished third.
