Jan Philby

Jan Philby was born on Jan. 26, 1936, and passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at his home in Corrales, N.M.
Jan was an exceptional athlete and was nominated for the Nebraska “Athlete of the Year” in 1954. This led him to the South Omaha High School Hall of Fame induction in 2003. He was named as “Athlete of the Year” at Dana College in 1955 and 1956 and later inducted in to the Dana College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1979.
Jan was a teacher and football coach at Red Oak High School and was inducted into the Red Oak High School Hall of Fame in 1992.
Jan left a legacy of love for hunting and fishing in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He taught the boys more in the duck blind than they ever learned in school. Above all, Jan loved his family, whether he was hunting, fishing, or playing cards. He enjoyed the simple time spent with family the most. His final Hall of Fame induction occurred on July 13th, where his seven children will remember him by his highest honor, being a father. His memory will live on through touching stories from family and friends.
