Red Oak boys golf has mixed results

Red Oak and Glenwood were supposed to play each other in golf April 18; it wouldn’t be until the end of the week that the two teams would meet.Friday, Red Oak traveled to Glenwood, and the Tigers fell to Glenwood, 154-183.For Glenwood’s Kobe Rhodes, a dominant season continued. He shot a 32, which was three under par and good enough for a medalist spot. Glenwood also took the runner-up medal, as Eli Bales shot a 40.Earlier in the week Red Oak had a nice showing in Fremont County when they took on Nishnabotna, and Southwest Iowa.The course par was a 36, and although no one was able to go under par, some impressive scores were mput up throughout the afternoon.Connor Johnson had the lowest score for the day for Red Oak and the third lowest of any golfer with a 44.Jared Williamson of Nishnabotna had the lowest score of the day with a 39, and the runner-up medal went to Bryson Duncan, also of Nishnabotna.Nishnabotna won the meet by only 10 strokes against Red Oak, 182-192, with Southwest Iowa rounding out the field with 244.Red Oak had a solid representation in the middle of the field, as they had golfers five through eight.Ryan Messinger shot a 47, which was good for fifth, Jackson Welter shot a 50, which was good for sixth, Ethan Hewett was right behind him in seventh with a 51, and Christian Horn came in eighth with a 55.Mason Perkins finished 18th with an 84.Austin McFarland also had an impressive day for Nishnabotna, he finished fourth with a score of 45.The lowest score for Southwest Iowa was Nathan Watts who tied for ninth with a 56.Red Oak will host Clarinda Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. and then host a triangular meet where they will take on Atlantic and Shenandoah. Monday May 2 Red Oak will travel to Creston for a dual match that will start at 4:30 p.m.Following that, the season will begin to wind down. Head coach Jon Gambs said at the start of the season that Red Oak would hopefully be able to break into the top half of the Hawkeye-10 conference.So far teams in the conference that are in the top half have been successful against Red Oak, such as Red Oak , Atlantic, and Lewis Central.Red Oak will have another chance to take on a good Hawkeye-10 team when they travel to Creston May 2.A week from today Red Oak will travel to Atlantic for a large tournament that will serve as a tune-up for the Hawkeye-10 Tournament May 9. Winterset, Norwalk, Ballard, Clarinda, Creston, Denison-Schleswig, Glenwood, Harlan, Kuemper Catholic, Lewis Central, Shenandoah, and Atlantic will be at the tournament which starts at 11:30 a.m.
