Red Oak sends 16 to state speech meet
COUNCIL BLUFFS - Red Oak’s individual speech team will be well represented at the state competition with 16 students qualifying at districts Saturday.
With 20 students competing in 31 events at Abraham Lincoln high school in Council Bluffs, 16 students qualified for state, representing 24 events.
Those going to State in Nevada March 9 are:
• Kathryn Rooker, prose and literary program;
• Brad Black, improv and acting;
• Angelica Cerda, acting and storytelling;
• Bevin Griffen, after dinner speaking and solo musical theatre;
• NyLea Pafford, storytelling and literary program;
• Maggie Bennett, public address and literary program;
• Geoff Sellers, acting and improv;
• Ellen Fellers, after dinner speaking and prose;
• Jessa Davis, poetry;
• Donnie Torbett, solo musical theatre;
• Leatha Bennett, prose;
• Laura Butz, solo musical theatre;
• Travis Schon, prose;
• DJ Reich, orig. oratory;
• Nick Black, review;
• Jeannie Kort, expository.
Receiving a “2” rating:
• Kaylin Carlson, prose and poetry;
• Mitch Hilder, improv;
• Jessa Davis, storytelling;
• Eva Woods, poetry;
• Erica Sherman, review;
• Leatha Bennett, literary program.
In preparation for the state comeptition, students who received a “1” rating will also be performing for the public March 4 at 5:30 p.m. in the high school media center.
