Red Oak softball wins one at Atlantic Tourney
ATLANTIC—The Red Oak Tigers softball team went 1-2 during the Atlantic Tournament Saturday.
Red Oak picked up its lone win during the third game of the tournament. The Tigers defeated Audubon, 5-1. Red Oak lost to Carroll, 10-9 and to Underwood, 8-0.
Several Red Oak players stepped up and played well Saturday, including Gabi French, who went 5-for-7 during the tournament, with five singles, four walks and four runs. Lexie Holmgren was 5-for-9 at the plate with two doubles, three singles, two runs scored and two more batted in.
On Thursday, Red Oak was swept in a doubleheader by Denison-Schleswig. The Tigers lost both games 13-1 and 18-3. The Monarchs hit four home runs during the doubleheader.
Last Wednesday, Red Oak lost a rain-shortened game to Exira-EHK, 8-2. Field conditions had deteriorated courtesy of the rain as the game was called after 5 1/2 innings. French had the top offensive day for Red Oak as she was 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs batted in and two singles.
Red Oak was also scheduled to compete against Essex, following their game against Exira-EHK.
Last Tuesday, Red Oak lost to the Clarinda Cardinals, 4-3. The Tigers were able to tie the game by scoring two runs in the top of the seventh, but Clarinda responded by scoring the winning run in the bottom half of the inning.
French had the lone multi-hit game for Red Oak as she went 2-for-4 with one run scored. Paige Stoaks, as well as Angela Mahoney each had a hit and scored a run. Lexie Holmgren meanwhile was 1-for-3 with two runs batted in.
Monday, Red Oak was home as they competed against the Glenwood Rams. Results weren’t available as of press time. The Tigers would be home again Tuesday to play the Shenandoah Fillies. Wednesday night they hit the road to play Corning and Thursday they’re home once more for a doubleheader against Lewis Central.
Then on Friday and Saturday, Red Oak will compete at the Creston Tournament.
