Red Oak stays strong with win over Lewis Central

RED OAK — The Red Oak varsity bowling teams swept Lewis Central in their first meet back, following the holiday break, last Tuesday at Red Oak Lanes.

Red Oak's boys' varsity team won 2,976-2,582, while the girls won 2,348-2,092.

“You can definitely tell we didn't practice over the holiday because I think our kids really needed a break,” Red Oak Head Coach Darrell Berry said. “We were a little rusty at times and we were a little inconsistent.”

Berry spoke with Lewis Central's coach, who told him that Lewis Central wasn't able to practice much over the break either.

“I'm still proud of the way some of them bowled because some of them did take it upon themselves to bowl quite a bit,” Berry said about his team.

In the boys' meet, Red Oak jumped out to a 300 pin lead in the series games, thanks to a 400 series by three bowlers. Brian Wade led the way for Red Oak with a 451 series, with a 239 high game.

“This is the best I've seen him bowl in a long time,” Berry said about Wade. “He did a great job, outstanding job for us.”

Taylor Mellott had a 429 series and a 242 high game, while Hayden Berry bowled a 226 high game to finish with a 419 series.

Casey Dykes was one pin shy of a 400 series, finishing with a 214 high game.

David Terry was able to finish with a 377 series (202 high game), while Corey Marsden bowled a 370 (192 high game).

The girls were also able to take the lead in the series and maintain it in the Baker games. Four of the Red Oak bowlers had a 300 series. Kristi Yardas led the way for Red Oak with a 334 series.

Shelby Storesund bowled a 199 in her second series game to finish with a 317 series. Brittany Plambeck bowled a 323 series, while Jayden Hilding had a 321.

Kaitlin Walston was shy of a 300 series, bowling a 299, while Teesha Hardy finished with a 240.

Both Red Oak varsity teams are now 9-0 for the season.

Red Oak's bowling team will be home Tuesday as they host the Red Oak Tournament. They're home again Thursday as they host Tri-Center. Both the meet and tournament will start at 3:30 p.m. at Red Oak Lanes.
