Red Oak Tigers lose to Atlantic in softball double header
Atlantic 6, Red Oak 3
Red Oak was unable to hold on to a 3-2 lead going into the final inning of the first game of the Atlantic doubleheader on June 18.
Atlantic struck first in the third inning with one run. Red Oak took the lead in the fifth inning when Paige Isaacson reached second on an error. Jami Redel singled to drive in the first Tiger run. Gabi French hit a hard ground ball off the Atlantic second basemen to score Redel.
Atlantic came back to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning with three back-to-back hits. Red Oak answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead via singles by Shelby Ayres and Kristi Yardas.
However, the Tigers gave up four runs in the top of the seventh inning to fall 6-3 to the Trojans.
Holmgren absorbed the loss on the mound surrendering eight hits and three earned runs while striking out five batters and walking one. Redel pitched to the final four batters of the game striking out one, walking one, and giving up no hits.
Atlantic 4, Red Oak 2
Atlantic won the second game of the Hawkeye 10 double header Thursday night by a score of 4-2. Offensively, Red Oak was led by Jami Redel with two hits including a double and Rachel Jennings with two singles. Gabi French contributed a double and Lexie Holmgren added a single.
The Tigers tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh with Jennings lead-off single followed by Redel’s double to right center field. However, Jennings and Redel were unable to score after a groundout and a line drive double play ended the ball game.
Redel took the loss on the mound scattering six hits, striking out two, walking one and giving up no earned runs.
