Roads, bridges crucial to farmer success

 Dear Editor, 

I would like to bring to the attention of the general public and citizens of the State of Iowa, the fact that our rural roads and bridges are in need of extra funding and attention,  in order to keep our state from becoming a third world country. 

The economy of the United States rides on the back of agriculture. We have the most productive farmers anywhere in the world who must endure the whims of the weather and the markets. It is essential to our economy as a whole to get the commodities grown by our farmers to market. The condition of the rural roads and bridges is reaching a point where, in parts of our county and state, it is becoming difficult to get the crops to market.  The condition of many of our rural roads and bridges is causing machinery breakdowns.

Farmers need the support of their urban neighbors to encourage county, state and national government to provide the funding needed to repair and improve county roads and bridges.
