Sallach, Thoren compete in state swim tournament
MARSHALLTOWN— Red Oak High School swimmers Kelsey Thoren and Sydney Sallach took part at the State Swim meet as part of Lewis Central’s (of Council Bluffs) team on Saturday in Marshalltown.
Both competed in multiple events, including together in relays. Thoren though was the only one to compete in individual events. The sophomore’s best finish was in the Women’s 200-yard Freestyle, when she finished in 11th place with a time of 1:58.66.
Thoren finished 12th in the Women’s 100-yard Backstroke final with a time of 1:01.24, which is a Lewis Central record.
In her relay event, Thoren, along with Lauren Leehy, Harper Emswiler and Tierney Kamies finished 14th in the Women’s 400 yard Free Relays with a time of 3:46.44. Thoren was the final leg of the 400-yard relay.
The relay Thoren and Sallach participated in was the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, which they, along with Emswiler and Leehy, finished 19th with a time of 1:43.84.
It was Sallach’s first appearance in the State meet, but was Thoren’s second appearance. Last year, Thoren finished 15th in the 500-yard freestyle and 21st in the 400-yard freestyle relay for Lewis Central
Lewis Central finished in 25th in the State meet with a total of 17 points. Ames won the state title with 293 points. West Des Moines Valley finished second with 213 points, while Bettendorf finished third with 209 points.
