Shirley St. Clair, 91

Shirley P. St. Clair, 91, of Red Oak, passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak.

Shirley Pauline St. Clair was born to Charles J. and Ruth (Rynerson) Strutz May 21, 1920, in Adair. Shirley was raised in Atlantic, where she graduated from high school.

She was united in marriage to Paul A. St. Clair April 9, 1939, in Maryville, Mo. In 1945, they moved to Seattle, Wash., and in 1948 to Griswold, where Paul worked as a farmhand. In 1949, Shirley and Paul made their home in Red Oak, having lived here since.

That same year, Shirley began a 36 year career with Union Carbide Battery Company in Red Oak, retiring in June of l985.

She enjoyed baking and going to garage sales.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul A. St. Clair, on May 10, 1997; an infant son, Gary; two brothers, William and Charles Strutz; and sister, Phyllis Petrie.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Shyrel St. Clair, of Red Oak; grandchildren, Eric (Jennifer) Chestelson, of California, and Kerrie Snyder, of Council Bluffs; three great-grandchildren; brother, James Strutz, of Seattle; sister, Beverly (Earl) Grainger, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; other relatives; and friends.

Celebration of Life services took place Thursday, Sept. 1, at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Fred Pilecki officiating.
